HI! Yesterday I got 5 paintings framed. This morning I did 2 and I've been working on this chicken ever since. I'm trying to get ready for the The Heritage Festival at The Eastern Shore Community College in Melfa,Va. on the Eastern Shore. I'm getting there slowly. Last night I realized I didn't have a chicken,a chicken watercolor. So I sketched this one in my sketchbook. It was a fun sketch not a every detail kind of thing.. so I've almost got him painted. I'm waiting for the first glaze of the background to dry then I'll go back and hopefully only put one more glaze on it.
Then frame that one and 3 more, I grumble the whole time I do it. If I were a millionaire I'd have all mine framed by a personal framer. Wouldn't that be fun!!:)
The show info is up in the right hand corner of my blog and the hours are from 10am-3pm Feb.23 which is tomorrow. John said it's going to rain.. he's so comforting.. the rascal. It might not.. ok it's supposed to heavily rain but I hope we will have a nice crowd anyway. Oh dear.. what are you going to do.. right..
While the chicken (yes -- the painting) was drying I managed to load the racks in the car. My back is not good and I have sciatica but I thought it would help to have that part done. John won't put the paintings in until just before we leave. So wish me luck and yes ESAL has an opening at Red Queen at 5pm. So I may be laying under a tree by Sunday! :) I'm kidding.. probably.
OOOH puppy news.. check out Debbie's new baby on the blog list..he's adorable Her blog is View From Harmony Hills.
and my puppy news. Sarah, the mama dog is nesting, she was tearing up newspapers yesterday and Kendra said she is huge! I think it will be soon. I'll let you know. love,Diana

Bayford,Va. Watercolor Landscape
Hi!Here is my latest Eastern Shore mini landscape.I've been working on it this morning. I've stopped. I'm doodling it to death. I tend to nitpick and over detail if I'm worried and I've been worried about the dogs.
This is a local place in Bayford,Va. The Eastern Shore Art League used to have lovely very intimate (small) art shows on the lawn in Bayford at Mapp and Thaddy Walker's lovely garden. This was like 15 years ago!! WOW!
First I drew my landscape. I then laid in the sky, turning it on it's side to make the drips and paint form lovely(hopefully) feathers of clouds, this is so much fun.. also it's a conversation piece if someone should walk in --- why is that painting upside down?? haha.. after it dried I wanted more color so I wet only the sky again and laid in another stripe of color just to the top of the house for contrast with the roof.(This sorta makes it dark like it's going to rain-- not my intention but hey it works!) I continued to paint and used my palette knife on the roof and 3 old barrels in the foreground. Just dip a wet palette knife into your color and smear it where you want.. it's more intense than dry brush and lots of fun to do!!! I used the barrels from the photo of the boat.
I will frame it for the ES Heritage Festival which is next weekend.. I have at least 5 to frame--UGH! take care, talk to you soon,Diana

Oranges on Blue Plate

hi! Here is my orange painting, I added some more blue to the "plate". It's looser than I usually do but I like it and it was fun. This was the painting I started at the ESAL(Eastern Shore Art League) Paint Out.
Now, I've got in mind to do a heron's head and this is the pour I will use. I'll start my sketch later today.I love the splash to the right and I need some smaller paintings for my next show, Eastern Shore Heritage Festival. The information is to the top right of the blog!
I also wanted to share with you a photo I took the other night of a little screech owl in my backyard. This one was dark greys and white, I know I'm going to have to do an owl soon. He was adorable and let me get close. Should have taken a closer photo but didn't want to flash him too much.
Take care, I've got paper work to do...,ugh. Rather paint. Talk to you soon,Diana

On to Tulips!
Hi, I finished my little daffodil painting just now and here it is. I'll have this framed and in my next show, the Heritage Festival at Eastern Shore Community College.
I've already started on a new painting. The lovely tulips and as you can see they are gorgeous now but that means hurry and paint. I could take photos and I have of the tulips but I feel it gives even more to the painting to paint from the actual flower if I'm fortunate and have one. Don't you!?
So stay warm and take care, we may have flurries tonight, just flurries-- that will be lovely, just to see it fall! Talk to you soon,Diana

Painting a Heron
Hi, two nights ago I couldn't sleep. I was up and wanted to sketch a little so I started this heron. Today I've started painting him. Here is the photo of the final sketch and what I've gotten painted so far. I've been enjoying him. The colors remind me of winter.
Speaking of which we are getting an icy rain now with promises of ice tonight.. a good day for hot coffee and the blasted coffee maker broke!!! Ah well, J. called and he bought a new one and will bring it home after work..I love strong coffee and don't know what I'd do without out it..
I'm getting ready for the Heritage Festival. The title of the show is "Treasures of the Eastern Shore", a heron definitely fits.
Stay warm and dry and have a lovely cup of coffee, talk to you soon,Diana
