Barn Owl Watercolor

I decided to do him again. I woke up the other night at 3am.  Walked by the painting-heading to the kitchen to get a drink of water. It was on my board propped, so I could see it easily, and said.. no.. the vines are way too much. I got carried away with them. They were becoming as important as the little owl.. so I cropped it, at 3 am. The next morning I said I can do better on the drawing so I started all over again. I found a seed pod of the Sweet Gum tree on my walk yesterday and put that in this morning before I drove down to Cape Charles to exchange paintings at the Stage Door Gallery. I'll finish his feet and decide what to do with the background. I'm leaning toward dark so he'll stand out. That's just the shadow from the window across his midsection. Do owls have midsections.???He's standing on a rusty metal beam, I may have to dull it down, talk to you soon. What are you working on today? Love,Diana

  2. I'm glad you're doing that sweet owl again! The things we do at 3 in the morning. :)

  3. No critique from me as I love leaves. But I also love that rusty beam this little guy is standing on. I think everything has a mid-section by definition.

  4. I think this was a good artistic choice to get rid of some unnecessary stuff and focus on this little guy - who is, afterall, the star! Lovely work so far and I'll be checking to see how you finish it. I like that rusty beam a lot and that will really play well against his feathers.

  5. There's many a night where I would be tempted to paint when I felt restless, but my Art Studio is at the bottom of the garden and it's too spooky to go down there at night! The garden backs on to the woods and we hear owls hooting all the time, adding to the spookiness!
I think your owl is gorgeous!
I'm between paintings right now. Just finished a new bear painting and also another glass painting. Need to set something new up this week.
    Happy New-Year Dianna :0)
