Amaryllis Watercolor on Masa and Cupcake's Vet Visit...

My Amaryllis just bloomed, so I had to paint it.
 

HI, I bought this amaryllis bulb on sale after Christmas. I've never had one this color and just love it. I painted it on masa paper. First I drew it , then wet one petal added some color, using Red Rose Deep and Cad Yellow Deep for the peachy color and just Red Rose Deep for the pinker color.The green is Cad. Yellow Light and Viridian, and Cad Yellow Deep and Viridian. All  of these paints are Da Vinci Watercolor. I wonder if I should put a background to it. What do you think?? PS Cupcake , our kitty, went to the veternarian on Monday for her first visit. She is a female, well ,and Dr. Bailey said "She's Perfect." She hid for the rest of the day and only came out when John got home, then would not look at me. I was the one who took her to the vets!! ha ha..

HI, Wow, Oh I wish you could have seen those orchids. Even if you aren't a flower person, they were outstanding. We had 6 orchids in our class to paint from.  I demonstrated how to use the masa, then they did this, we did lots of washes and exercises some with Brusho Art Crystals. Then they chose an orchid to paint from and drew it and painted it on the masa paper I had prepared  the paper last week at home. It takes a day for the paper to dry so that we can paint on it. Oh it was gorgeous. The little crevices that the masa made in the paper created the most wonderful background for the orchids. I was so proud of what they painted...we were so busy I didn't get enough photos of all of the students. After class I went to the gift shop and the Tropical House with Renee and Raina.. go if you can, the orchids were amazing. There are chairs inside to just sit and gaze at them. I took 43 photos. So I have lots to paint from, I want to do a large one on the masa.

Day Lily Watercolor

Hi, I think the computer may blow up. It's roaring so loud. I'll do this quickly. I've painted a day lily on Masa paper on 140lb cold press Arches watercolor paper. The flower was so lovely in my front yard I had to pick it before Sadie ate it. She has been a rascal today. Oh my. Thank goodness she is asleep now. I've used Cad red,Cad yellow deep and light,permanent rose,opera,and thindago violet. Hope each of you have a wonderful weekend. Love to you,Diana

Cosmos in Watercolor with Masa Technique

HI, Here's my new Cosmos Flowers Watercolor on Masa. It's 8x10. I"ve just finished it the morning. I planted some in my garden. Mama gave me some seed. She has them in her garden and it also used to be one of Gran's favorite flowers. I've painted off and on this weekend as we had company. Our son came home.He just left to go back home. I miss him already. My daughter's in Illinois.. so I haven't seen her in awhile.. miss her too.

Well this week I've got framing to do and a show this Saturday in Onancock at the Harborfest..take care, and enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend. Labor Day here in the USA...love to all,Diana

Luna Moth on Masa

Here is my new watercolor of a luna moth and blue hydranea on masa paper. Try this technique, take a piece of masa paper which is 90lbs and crumple it in your hand put it in a bowl of water, then gently stretch it out and using Elmers school glue and water coat a piece of 140lb cold press then apply the masa, gently, removing all bubbles. This must dry and usually takes a day. The next day draw your sketch and paint.. This technique gives a wonderful batik look.. Here is the luna moth I sketched the painting from. I save my findings of butterfly and moth wings. I do hope you get to see a luna moth. They are incredible.. So large and almost transparent ..This one was in my yard one night... I'm getting ready for the Virginia Beach 17th Street Art Show which will be July 24th, Going to the beach for the day to get some inspiration, hope the salt, sand and sun helps. talk to you soon, Diana
