Hi, I've been working on my butterfly watercolor today. It takes a long time with all that detail but I do so love butterflies. I love painting,it's so soothing to me.

 Sadie,our puppy, slept well last night as you can see her in her crate! Ha ha.. she does get in strange positions even with the collar on and here is her resting now by my art table. The collar doesn't seem to bother her, and she's taking her antibotic for the infection of her stitches.

Glad we don't have to go to the vet today.I'm going to make some more coffee and get back to the butterfly. I saw one go by earlier. We have so many especially the Spicebush Swallow Tail (black ones) on my pink phlox. Sadie does love to leap,snatch the butterfly,and mash the flower on the way down. All happens in a second.. I should have taken photos earlier! ah well.. ha ha..  my love to  you,Diana

Butterfly watercolor beginnings

So much to share.. Friday I got by and saw my friend Beth and Anna ,her daughter, and this is Addy,her granddaughter. Jackson her grandson,4 years old, was snuggling in bed. But we all got to visit and enjoy being together before they have to go back home to Montana.

Here is my Frog finished. He was so much fun to paint. Funny or happy is good.

Sadie, this morning,is looking out the window at the well truck. Bundick is here to drill us a new well. We can hear the drilling as it's going into the earth.. They had to cut a holly tree down to the ground..ah well. I've been trying to work on my tiger swallow tail.. got one wing done.  I've turned on the music loud.. Helen Jane Long blasting.. ha ha.. sounds good. Sadie's had some redness and weeping of her stitches .. no wonder she won't hold still.. so later today we're going back to the vet for a recheck..  Take care. Peanut Butter Sandwich , Squirrel, Another Butterfly Watercolor!

HI ! I know ,I've painted another butterfly. On to something else I promise! This one I had started in class-- but had to finish. For me it's like eating popcorn-one more piece.. keep painting--just keep painting..unfortunately.I don't feel the same for cleaning. :)

 I've got family coming this weekend, my son and his girlfriend. My sister is coming for the day tomorrow and I have a class which I'm looking forward to teaching at Norfolk Botanical Gardens on Saturday. I've made a fresh apple cake, the dishes are soaking, I should clean,well maybe.. or I could paint something else.. 

Oh, the squirrel photo, I know you are wondering. I was sitting on the porch yesterday,holding my brush. I was painting tomatoes,pausing because I was too tired from shopping. A small squirrel came and got in the bird feeder. I felt sorry for him. The dear didn't have a thing in there.  I came inside, made a peanut butter sandwich,  broke it up for him and put it in the feeder. He  ate his sandwich as I sipped my coffee. It was so cute.

so.. I guess I'll go paint. You knew it didn't you! ha ha.. I will clean a little.. talk to you soon, Diana 

Tiger Swallowtail Watercolor with Rice Paper

HI, I did finish my tigerswallow tail watercolor.The background, I decided to go frothy. I glued rice paper with gold metallic strips in it to the edges and stained them with thalo blue and cadmium yellow light. I'll put an oval mat on it.Here's the rice paper with it.

Now I'll work on the other butterfly. That was a spicebush swallowtail.I'll wash my old glue brush first..fill up the coffee cup and here I go..happy painting today!

Demonstration from ESO Butterfly Class

HI! Here are my 2 demonstrations from my Butterfly Class yesterday at ESO in Belle Haven,Va. The top one is the Spicebush Swallowtail and the bottom is my favorite the Tiger Swallowtail. We had 4 students and they did a beautiful job.. each painted a Tiger Swallowtail ( I hope they frame them) It was a fun day.I hope everyone has a great weekend. Butterfly Morning

Well,here's my morning. The plumber came and fixed the shower and I sat down and finished my butterfly,drinking coffee on the side. I put Iridescent watercolor medium on the butterfly after I finished painting it. Just a tiny bit with water as a glaze so it would glisten,like butterflies do! I've already seen 3 tiger swallowtails just the other day. They are my favorite butterfly so far. The dogwood in the forests are blooming and I saw some wisteria in bloom.. OOOH. Now where can I get some!It grows wild.. I'll be on the lookout! talk to you soon,Diana
