Egret and Bamboo

hi everyone,  here is what I have been working on.  I had a lovely  CLASS at Norfolk Botanical Garden last weekend  and started this White Egret and Black Bamboo  painting. I just painted the dark side and crosshatched it. Hope I like it if not I will  wet and then go darker. I took bamboo  but the garden had black bamboo in the Japanese Garden. One of my favorite  spots. It is so serene. I will post photos  from CLASS next time. Yesterday Eastern Shore Art League had a paint out in Onancock, Va. We all took dishes to share and at lunchtime had a feast, being with friends  and painting is a good time. Hope you all are warm, love to you, Diana ps Sadie, our lab has been very frisky today.

Hi Everyone, today I went up to the Eastern Shore Art League Gallery where we took down our Spring Member Show. I didn't sell anything but they did sell a few so that was good. Monelle went with me and we enjoyed seeing some other artist friends, including Bentley who is Lois's dog. Lois sometimes brings him along to spend her day at the gallery. HI Everyone, I just had a nice day at Carla's home. This was another Eastern Shore Art League Paint out. We had lunch and painted her views. I told her each window seemed to show something to paint.. Gorgeous, like the photo in the middle here. My camera stopped working of course but I got to paint, I was sitting opposite Monelle.  I painted the scene above, with Brusho. I put the warm water on then sprinkled it on.. then added a few brush strokes and watercolor as needed. It was fun. Sadie is now raring to go play and I"m tired.. ha ha.. that is the way it goes. WON Ribbon on Heron Watercolor

I won 2nd Place in Watercolor last night at ESAL Art Show at Stage Door Gallery in Cape Charles,Va. on my heron watercolor "Memories", a beautiful ribbon and a check!!! Yeah!! I"m happy!! The judge described it as delicate, sensitive, and great composition!

Paintings for the ESAL Member Show

HI! Well I just got the heron watercolor framed. I got the iris watercolor done yesterday. I used the liquid paint to pour the iris painting. The flowers are impatiens  over top of the heron...My sunset class was today at ESO in Belle Haven.   Sadie is watching for John.  He brings her a yummy each night.

It has turned winter. I've got 2 sweat shirts on. Ha ha.. I tried to take Cupcakes picture a few minutes ago but it frightened her and all I got were her back legs and tail. She is sweet but so afraid. It's going to take some time to get her comfortable I'm afraid.

I've made some coffee.  I'll make a meatloaf and then paint a little. Talk to you soon. Love to each of you,     Diana

Vivid Iris Watercolor

The Eastern Shore Art League is having our annual Fall show at Stage Door Gallery in Cape Charles, Va. in a couple of weeks. I had to send in the names of 2 not done watercolors...ok, not even thought of. So I said "Fall" and "Memories".  These were the same names I had last year.. oh well. I've been racking my brain on what to paint. Today it hit me. Iris for one. Let's just work on one at a time. Here's this one so far..  I've taken my cooked chicken out to church for the bazaar on Saturday, then returned with Coffee Brownies for the Bake table. Craddockville United Methodist Church Bazaar, Nov. 1, Sat. from 8am-12 pm. Go if you can , I'm teaching in Norfolk but I'm excited about that too. Talk to you soon, love to each of you,Diana

Catching Up a Little and What do I paint now?

 Here's the 2 paintings I'm taking to The Hermitage tomorrow. It's the ESAL(Eastern Shore Art League)painting exchange,we do this about every 3 months. New work goes up in the halls for the residents and their guest to enjoy and anyone may buy them there.

Here is Sadie, she took a bug to bed last night. A large beetle, she loves to discover new creatures. This morning she hopped around with a frog in the orange blossom bush. Yes-- ha ha. right smack dab in the middle of the bush. It was shaking and then a white tail would appear, more shaking. ha ha. Sadie does keep me smiling.She's napping now. I"m still so very tired and sore from the show this weekend. We have another this upcoming Saturday at the Rock Church Art Festival in Melfa,Va. What do I paint now?? Love to each of you,Diana

HI, Lots of photos today. Here is my newest little watercolor of my parents Japonica, or Flowering Quince, and a Purple Finch they had in their yard.  The table from my demonstration, which went well. Chesapeake Bay Watercolorists were very sweet. Kathy Spacier of kathyspacier-artist.blogspot.com. is one of the officers and a dear friend, check her blog out when you have time,she does beautiful work. Two Friends,Jeanette and Susan, from the ESAL, today was pick up day for our work from the Spring show at the Red Queen Gallery in Onancock,Va..so I was there in the morning.  Sadie, got in the recycled plastic and decided she had to drag the bottle around until I caught her this afternoon. Last but not least,cream puffs, made at the Corner Bakery in Onancock,Va. If you ever get here on the ES you must go there. The smell is amazing, the taste divine, oh my goodness.the best in the world ,my opinion... but I'm right! ha ha. a treat to enjoy!!! I had to stop and buy a few on my way home.

Finished. a sigh of relief.. Thank goodness. I've finished the framing too. I framed as dear Sadie stuffed her chewy into my lap. So I'm ready for that show.. I have to deliver them Friday(tomorrow)morning to the Red Queen Gallery in Onancock.

I will start another little watercolor after lunch. I haven't painted today just the framing..another show on Saturday. It's so cold today. Yesterday it was 60 degrees and so wonderful outside now it's in the 30's. I'm so looking forward to warmer weather. I hope you get to enjoy doing something you love today. love to you,Diana

Hi, I've finally started on this second painting I need for the art show on Saturday. I wanted to do Hellebores so they are on the left hand side and the title is "Color of Spring"( I can't ever think of what I'm going to paint so it has to be a fits everything painting title! Ha ha) so I wanted daffodils for yellow..too. However I found the bright yellow daffodils were too bold and over powered the Hellebores so here is what I have so far. Sadie has been a dear all day sleeping by my feet as I paint.. What are you painting or doing today?? Love to you,Diana

Peonies Watercolor

Hi, It's finished, I'm almost certain. My only thoughts are whether to add stems to the 2 bottom peonies. I tried it and prefer it without the stems. So I'm going to follow my own advice.. Stop when you like it. So #1 done for the art league show.. Now what.--one more to do.. ha ha.. I've thought about a pouring of rainbow colors with something on it,either butterflies, or giant radishes.--don't mind me... Oh dear. I'll look around and decide on something.

I got my watercolor paper I had ordered from Jerry's Artarama just a few minutes ago.(Arches 140 lp cold press and some Fabriano too.) UPS brought 2 huge boxes. Sadie,our lab, was so excited she barked and then literally threw herself on the storm door to see and greet the UPS driver. I think this was a new guy as he kept looking back and walking faster to the truck.. HA HA... Our regular UPS men know Sadie and love to pet her as she jumps in glee.. ok most of the time on them.. We're working on that.

Peony Painting Beginnings

HI, Well we got snow night before last. About 4 inches,not too bad really but I'm ready for daffodils and yes I have 3 crocus blooming. For me I'm always so tickled there is a flower growing in the yard!!

This was before the snow. The crocus are now covered.

  I've started a new painting. Finally decided on peonies, you can see it above. I'm going to add something,either a bird or a butterfly to the top right. I love these colors. Cadmium Yellow Deep,Red Rose Deep,Opera.. We're having another Spring Show at Red Queen Gallery for the ESAL(Eastern Shore Art League), 2 pieces per member and they must be never before seen.. translation never before seen which means 2 brand new watercolors for me.With the snow it is a perfect day to paint.

 Sadie,our dear not a puppy anymore, is napping now at my feet. She's been out chasing birds away from my snow day bird cake. Yesterday I made a cake for the birds(just a stale box mix) --I seem to never have birdseed.. so they get all kinds of goodies like peanut butter sandwiches or leftover cereal..  Sadie had a taste of the cake and decided she would have the rest but it's high up the tree in the bird feeder.(I hope)  The colors of the female cardinal inspired this painting and I may add one to the painting I'll see. She has been hanging around today,so have Juncos,Titmice,Chickadees and other Cardinals.

Painting Wachapreague

We all had a blast painting-This is mine from today.. The Eastern Shore Art League spent the day there and painted and we had a terrific lunch.. Mine was fried oyster poorboy sandwich with sweet potato fries.

We were at Island House in Wachapreague,Va.

HI, Today I went to the ESAL paint out in Onancock. It was so warm (friends together) and delightful. Everyone brought good food to share for lunch and we painted at Susan's dining room table and other tables thru her home.

again, so I had to paint them.. and I showed them how to paint the shadow of the flower with clear water and then drop in the color. Sadie was waiting for me when I got home.  The living room smells like oranges as she had fetched one I had thrown out in the woods and brought it in.. ah that's my girl..

Run Away Dog and Watercolors

HI! Today I went to Stage Door Gallery in Cape Charles,Va. to pick up my paintings and Monelle's from the ESAL member show there. I also took 6 new watercolors, one is the Rhododendron Watercolor above, Heron Grace, and 4 smaller ones,Angry Chicken,Hummingbird,Last Hummer, and Bayford. These will be up for their Christmas open house this Saturday at 6 pm and stay there until New Year.

Sadie knew I was going somewhere as I was packing paintings,so she ran into the woods and looked sheepishly back but kept going.Gone, I couldn't see her.. I bribed, I demanded--Come,Sadie.. all to no avail..So I called Vera at the SDG and told her I was on the way but had to go into the woods to get my dog. I got her on the leash after climbing over downed trees,smelling the cool but wet smell of leaves..... and after some trying time for both of us.. got her in the crate in the house and got on my way. We have to crate her when no one is home. She could eat something..ok, would eat something.  Anyway when I got there everyone was so kind. .. the first thing they said was "Did you find Sadie..is she ok.?

Did you get any painting done today?? I drew  3 red carrots in my datebook.. I couldn't find the orange pen.. I'm tired.. have a restful night!! love,Diana

Guess What! I Won!!

I won!  3rd prize in watercolor for Autumn.. the owl. I was surprized and so happy. Here Sadie is congratulating me as I got in the front door at home. It was a long day. First art show in Franktown. I sold 2 small and one large painting. Made some wonderful contacts,sometimes it's the smaller shows that work best.. John was a big help packing and unpacking my racks, paintings... and then to Cape Charles for the ESAL show.  I'm beat today but resting up. love to each of you, Diana

ESAL Member Show Paintings

Here they are! I finished the owl last night at 9pm.( the framing too)  I've got to start earlier and make up my mind on subject matter very early! I'm so glad to have them finished. Today I have to go to Cape Charles and deliver them. I'm delivering Monelle's work and Gertraud too. Then to the grocery store.

As you can see I changed owls and leaves, totally started over. It's a barn owl in an old barn window with a vine and a floating leaf. The vine is from the lines of the pour inspired from my backyard's trumpet vine. I heard the Great Horned Owl in the backyard last night, the night before Sadie met a Screech Owl back there. She ran to the house. ha, ha.. Talk to you soon, Love,Diana

Hurry up and Paint...

HI, I'm rushing. I finally decided what to paint. Remember earlier this summer I actually held a Screech owl.. So I thought one of those and the leaves have been so gorgeous so I added those, and here it is the  beginning of the watercolor. A pour first in autumn colors, then the drawing of Maple Leaves and the little owl. Now to paint.Good grief I'm running out of time.. This is my 2nd entry to the ESAL show,which is this coming Saturday. Delivery is Thursday. Yes I have to frame them too.

 As you can see the Help(Sadie, our dear lab puppy) is not cooperating. I put the flea medication on her back and she squeezed under the couch. She had earlier in her puppydom torn the underlining...The tail really makes me laugh hanging out like that.. I've got to go get back to the painting. I'll start on the head of the owl. Worse comes to worse, I can stay up one night to finish the painting..

Display at The Hermitage

Hi, today was exchange painting day at the Hermitage in Onancock,Va. The Hermitage is a home for retired or ill older people. It's upscale. The Eastern Shore Art League has a display there in the spacious hall. Sooo today I took in this painting and a painting of a Model T. I was going to show you but can't put my hands on the photo now. We each get to display 2 pieces and we've had quite a few sales. So that's good. It also is very much appreciated by the people who live there. Afterwards I slipped up to Amy Kay's,my cousin's, and picked up a couple of paintings I had up there,visited with her for a few minutes and decided I was close to Walmart so might as well get the grocery shopping done. I'm home unpacked and sipping coffee. It will kick in about 8pm. Ha ha.. I didn't get any painting done. I'm just too tired now. I will tomorrow. I'm looking forward to just being home and painting!
