Frog and Being Together!

HI, I got the rest of my Thanksgiving shopping done, walked Sadie, and framed a little. Will get the rest of the framing done tomorrow am,then go set it up at Smiling Dolphin. Here is an old photo of Sadie as a baby with Rudy as her protector. She was afraid that night and ran to the cat for protection. A frog watercolor I did awhile back. I used the pour to shape the leaves and vines.and then negatively painted around them!. very simple but I liked it.. and it was so much fun. Talk to you tomorrow. Love,Diana

Frog Watercolor

HI, This is a frog from the past. One of my very favorite. The painting was bought awhile ago and is in Illinois. I love the way the pour worked into the tree.  I had to go to Stage Door Gallery to change work there today. That's in Cape Charles, 30 minutes away. I did some washes this morning in yellows and oranges. What do I paint next?? Tomorrow my sister is coming to visit, so perhaps I'll see something in the garden at my mothers.. how is your painting going today. Love,Diana

Butterfly watercolor beginnings

So much to share.. Friday I got by and saw my friend Beth and Anna ,her daughter, and this is Addy,her granddaughter. Jackson her grandson,4 years old, was snuggling in bed. But we all got to visit and enjoy being together before they have to go back home to Montana.

Here is my Frog finished. He was so much fun to paint. Funny or happy is good.

Sadie, this morning,is looking out the window at the well truck. Bundick is here to drill us a new well. We can hear the drilling as it's going into the earth.. They had to cut a holly tree down to the ground..ah well. I've been trying to work on my tiger swallow tail.. got one wing done.  I've turned on the music loud.. Helen Jane Long blasting.. ha ha.. sounds good. Sadie's had some redness and weeping of her stitches .. no wonder she won't hold still.. so later today we're going back to the vet for a recheck..  Take care. Sadie's Doing Well and Frog Inspired Watercolor

HI! Sadie is doing fine from her surgery. She has to be kept quiet for 10days so I'll be walking her around the yard on the leash. She got some sleep last night..me not so much..  Today she hasn't been happy to have me attached to her every time we go outside.She chased a frog. .She ate a butterfly,2 locust shells..she was happy..and I tried to grab inspiration --ha -- and decided to paint the frog!(I didn't bring him inside.)  Tell me what you are painting.. what inspired you..silly is fine..-- I'm so tired.. Frogs and Roses

Hi! I worked on my frog watercolor yesterday afternoon and just finished it a few moments ago. I decided to go over the leaf on the right. I loved the colors but thought it was distracting. I'd just read a blog about simplifying and this is how I applied it.

 I'm teaching a class on roses on Saturday at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens.  Their roses are magnificent. Here's the entry to their rose garden.. Yes, I'll take photos Saturday. My thoughts for class is everyone do a large rose and if we have time do a pour with some long stem buds. (I may reverse that).Here is "Rose"my watercolor. I went to the florist and went thru every rose they had. Yes.. it took me an hour. I found two roses I considered perfect, or close enough, and bought just those two. Ha Ha.. They had even let me go thru their cooler in the back room to choose the roses.. The Right Touch in Nassawadox,Va. Well I came home and painted "Rose". What we do for our art!!! ha ha.

 I'm sorry to say we ate the eggplant before I painted them. Ratatouille. It was delicious..I ate it all, no hubby doesn't like it.. but I did take photos of the eggplant.

On to the next painting,first I have to clean up the leaves,vines, and wild persimmons from the art table.The puppies haven't been born yet and I've held myself back from calling.. to see how the mother is doing.. I'll let you know when I do and if I can I'll get some photos of the baby asap. talk to you soon, Diana

Tree Frog and New Tiny Brushes

HI, This morning Hampton Roads Wholesalers came by at 8am. Fred is the owner and delivers here on the Eastern Shore for them once every 3 weeks. They bring supplies and frames for $8 and deliver right here at my house! He delivers all the way to Chincoteague,Va. which is 30 miles north of here.

 I,then, went to the grocery store and got home,fixed an iced coffee, and headed for the back porch with the zooming hummingbirds.I finished the little frog painting. J. had ordered me some tiny brushes(Amazon had them) and I got them today. They are so tiny!! They'll be perfect for butterflies and cutting around edges.. but I can see now-- I enjoyed trying some of them out on the froggie.. got to be careful. I must use Large Brushes too so I won't tighten my work up anymore.. we'll see what happens..

I love these sweet little tree frogs they cling to the side of the house at night sometimes and have the largest voice for such a tiny creature. I held one one day. It was such a dear moment.

Fresh Frog and Painting with Monelle

HI! Today I spent the day at my friend Monelle's painting. She was working on a steer, and an orange kitty. I worked on this little frog painting. I've still got plenty to do to finish him. One rooster is almost done.We had lunch out at China Chef and enjoyed painting.

 J. brought me some veggies from a farm stand. I know.. we live in the country but here in the trees we don't have enough sun for a vegetable garden. I've tried-- but there are lots of farm stands! Only problem is I usually have to paint them before we eat them- Do you do this?

 Here is our kitty,Rudy. She's 17 years old but decided to crawl in this bag. She's always been J.'s kitty. Daisy was mine. She is a nice kitty but we've never been very close,now she purrs in my arms---as if to comfort me. talk to you soon, Diana

Bullfrog Watercolor

HI, I just put my finishing touches on my Bullfrog. He has an iridescent watercolor on him so he glistens and so does the water in front of him.It seems since Daisy has gone we are getting larger frogs,more lizards,you name it seems to be coming in the porch.

  I started a drawing of another chicken late last night and will start that now. It's breezy in the porch but so sunny so I'm painting there.

 I just sent out my email about my Hummingbird Watercolor class at Norfolk Botanical Gardens! Hope we get lots of students. talk to you soon, Diana

New Frog Watercolor

Hang on During Hurricane Irene!!!

One of my students brought a photo of this little frog,she painted it and so did I.I worked on it today. I thought it was perfect(unfortunately) because here comes Hurricane Irene, from the looks of her,this storm could be worse than any I've seen in my lifetime--we'll ride it out here-- winds could be up to 100... Frog Watercolor in the STORM??

hi, Well I have to frame this new little frog painting and one more little one for the show tomorrow. Now the weather forecast is sounding BAD!! WINDS 45 and rain, possible thunderstorms.. Great, me in a tent doing the Vanna White (holding on for dear life and still attempting to look cheerful!) Well, we just have to be positive and hope for the best. Downward Facing Frog

HI! Happy April Fool's Day!Hope you have a silly fun day!

Here is my new frog watercolor finished. I called it Downward Facing Frog.. J. has tried to get me doing yoga to help my back.I am trying. I suppose this is really the Cobra position. Well I'm learning! I used the pour to suggest a forest setting and used negative painting to define the leaves or suggestions of leaves.

These are some begonias I got recently. The colors in these are fabulous. Today the seedpods from the trees are drifting by the windows. So beautiful. well have a wonderful weekend, restful and peaceful. take care, Diana

ps. Next weekend is the Annual Thoroughgood House Spring Celebration (Art and Garden Show) in Virginia Beach,Va... I will be there showing my art.So I'll be getting ready for that--framing.. just got some frames in!!

Rooster Watercolor with Rice Paper

HI, last night late I finished my little rooster watercolor. I used rice paper with a lovely gold thread thru it in patches on the watercolor paper. By tearing the rice paper and applying it with glue to my Arches paper this creates different textures to the painting. Here are 2 kinds of rice paper. I like the technique for something different sometimes.Yesterday I did a sketch of a frog as a demo and so I'm going work on him this afternoon.I'll go get my coffee and get busy!
