Hi, I finished this painting last night of a Short Tailed Black Swallowtail and Red Admiral. We have had both in the backyard, especially the swallowtail butterflies. They adore the tall phlox. The Devils Walking Stick, a wild tree,is now blooming and the hummingbirds and butterflies love that large mass of white blooms on top of this tree.

Today I ate lunch in the porch and hummingbirds were everywhere,I've made some more feed for them and will get some sugar when I go to the grocery store this week.One grazed the top of my head as I read.. ha ha.. Are you seeing extra hummingbird activity at your home?

Flower Patch and Hummingbirds

HI! I just wanted to show you my flower patch in the backyard. I enjoy it so much. There is no order to it just random spattering of whatever my eye likes. I've been collecting wild daisies from the fields and planted them in here too.

The hummingbirds zoom thru my back porch all the time. This is fun -- they almost seem to try to get as close as possible. I took this photo yesterday as the little male was eating.(sorry about the dog pen in the picture.. Daisy never would get in there.. ) We only have the Ruby throated Hummers here but they are magnificent.. so very delicate. Do you have hummers where you are? What kind?

  Going to paint outside now with my coffee and some chocolate...I'll need an extra extra large moo moo for the beach! Ha Ha...

Hummingbird Hopeful

For the past couple of days I've been painting this little hummingbird. I keep thinking any day the scout will show up to my kitchen window. I always enjoy when they come. I have at least 3 feeders to get ready for them. It's been warm and nice outside. The wrens are building a nest in the back porch.(over top of Daisy's spot-when she was younger she would have chased them around the porch.)

I decided at the last minute as you can see to put some rice paper into the painting to echo the delicate blossom I picked on my walk today. Someone told me it was wild apple tree.?? It does feel like spring! talk to you soon. Diana -- do you have hummingbirds yet??(That's iridescent powder in the pill vials!)

Maplewood Gardens' Open House

Hi, This Saturday,April 17, I will be showing my watercolors at Maplewood Gardens' Open House, in Nassawadox,Va. from 10am to 4pm. This is a fun event. They have greenhouses filled with gorgeous plants, and flowering shrubs, and herbs, perfect for planting in our gardens. Barbara and Phil Custis are the owners,and know what to plant where and how to keep it growing.. a problem I sometimes have!It is a wonderful day, you can visit their sheep and lambs, use a little red wagon to pick up your new flowers and plants and of course new painting if you wish! Other local artists will be displaying their work too. Hope to see you and Happy Spring!!! I have been working on a new hummingbird painting this week and have just filled my feeders.. Anyone seen a hummingbird yet??
