A Chicken a day Series in Watercolor

I have  been doing A Chicken a day Series.  This is a painting of a chicken each day for awhile and selling them for the bargain price of $68. 5x7 matted to 8x10 and shipping included.  I am thankful to say they are selling well. It takes me the better part of a day to Paint one, the one above is True Love. Whimsical and fun.
This painting is a watercolor palette knife painting.  I have been taking a class from Carrie Jacobson , oil palette knife artist from Wachapreague and I am doing it in Watercolor. It is fun and kinda impressionistic .We are all well and i hope and pray you and your families are well . Love and blessings to you, Diana

Landscape in Watercolor

Started a landscape, yesterday I drew it and today I  have started the painting.

Sadie and I both have been upset today.

The loggers are here. John and I chose to do this but it tears at my heart each time I hear the saw ,then crash. The 2 cats sat on my art table as I painted, Sadie panted and panted. I talked to a dear friend  tonight and he recommended looking at the good that will come out of it. John suggested planting sunflowers, I would like that.

I am teaching at Norfolk Botanical Garden this Saturday, Calla Lilies will be the subject.

Talk to you soon, more painting with Sadie tomorrow, love,Diana

New Camel

Me at my parents Christmas Party.

Camel Watercolor, this has a snakeskin imprint going through her face.
Hi I can not believe it is almost Christmas.  In a way I am relieved the shopping is almost over.  Now we can take more time to be with family and enjoy and remember the true meaning  of our Christmas.  I did get a call so my commission went across the bridge as it was meant to. I am so glad. Wishing you a blessed Christmas or holiday.  My love to each of you. Diana

How did I do the snakeskin imprint?  Sadie,my lab,  found a snakeskin,  I poured or you could just wet then apply color, gently place the snakeskin down on the wet wash. There are 2 designs, the top of the snake  and the belly, choose before you place it, l chose the top for this one. I placed a rock to weigh it down and keep  it there. When the wash is dry remove the skin and rock and a gorgeous imprint is there! Hope  this helps!

Merry Christmas

I have been  working  on a new Angry  Chicken  watercolor.

Sadie, my lab, stole the beater from my cookie baking.
Hi, well I have done it now.  I lost the name and # of the gentleman who commissioned me to paint  this chicken. I hope he calls.  I have no way of calling him. I have  learned  something,  write it large and put it in my datebook.  Then I will  have it.  I am so sorry  I hate to disappoint this new customer.  But the painting is all ready should he call. I will let you know.

I got busy and made chocolate chip cookies. These are the best I have ever made.Ghirardelli milk chocolate chips and real butter made the difference, they are rich.  John helped me clean today. That was a blessing. I still have more presents to buy and wrap....

I had a treat today I went to High Point Glassworks, Edith and Ken Platt in Pungoteague  ,Va. Ken made some gorgeous icicles for me for gifts.  He made 3 while  I watched it was amazing, visiting with Edith and Ken was such a lovely time.

Wishing each of you a blessed Christmas and Happy Holidays.  Love to each of you.Diana

New Heron Watercolor and Sadie

I some times wonder if I will ever totally learn this tablet. I love the ease of having it here with me while John watches tv. Ah well. Sadie is supposed to be reating for 2 weeks. This is harder for me than her. She is doing ok.  Here is my start for this heron painting. I am putting Japanese iris behind him, and have changed the drawing of them.  I hope everyone has a great weekend. Love to you, Diana

Vegetable Still Life and My Sadie

hi, Here is Sadie, our lab. She went to the doctor  today. She has an infection of her incision. She over did it at the drs. Sadie gets so excited she leaps and jumps and I am on the other end of the leash trying to control her. But she has an antibotic and needs to rest, and will be fine.

I tried to post the painting first but am still learning this tablet.  I went to this lovely vegetable stand near Harborton, Va.  Eva grows and makes everything  there, crusty bread ,soups, all kinds of fresh organic veggies. I used some of them to paint.  These are Dana, my nieces Sunflowers, gorgeous. I decided  to do the checkerboard but stopped  midway when I liked it. I did not paint each black  square.

My class was really great Saturday. The garden was so beautiful and everyone did beautiful sunflower paintings. Thank you all.

Talk to you soon, love to everyone, Diana

The Japanese Garden at NBG. Our next subject in class there!
Hi Everyone,  Yesterday, I was in Norfolk,Va. at the Norfolk Botanical Garden teaching "Hydrangeas and Spicebush Swallow tail Butterflies." I had 10 students. Pictured above are a few of the students. We used saran wrap to begin our hydrangeas. I took some flowers from home too, I had some gorgeous purple hydrangeas and Daddy had some amazing Oak Leaf Hydrangeas. At lunch Renee and I walked to the Japanese Garden and she held onto the back of my shirt as I leaned into the pond to try to capture the amazing Lotus Blossoms and Water Lilies.. Gorgeous!!! I didn't fall in! We all had a nice time. It was a lovely day!

Sadie, our lab, as you know had surgery last week on her Cruciate ligament in her knee. So, it went well. She is starting to get her energy back. We are icing it and giving her her pain meds and helping her as much as we can. I have a photo of her on facebook  from after the surgery sleeping. She is coming along well.

Have a wonderful Sunday, Love to each of you,Diana

Art on the Farm Show and PIGLETS!

Me hanging my work at the show. John helped me so much!

A Gorgeous day !

Perennial Roots Kune Kune Piglet, they brought 2. They were adorable!
HI ! Wow, it was a lovely show. I sold 12 originals. I was so pleased to see everyone and thank everyone for their support.  I had a good time visiting the booths next to me. Perennial Roots www.perennialroots.com was near by and brought 2 little piglets. I naturally was talking to them and petting the pigs throughout the day.  I love animals. These I'll be painting more of, isn't that a sweet face. There were a lot of people there so I was busy all day. John and Clay came and broke me down and packed up for me. I'm still exhausted, but it was a very good time.

Clay is visiting this weekend. Here in the USA it's Memorial Day Weekend. I'm so glad he got to come home for a long weekend. He brought me my mothers day and birthday present-- a tablet. I've never had one before and it's so wonderful to have the men watching tv while I play on it. I'm still trying to get the hang of it. It's wonderful.

Sadie.our lab, has pulled a muscle in her leg, but she is doing ok, Cupcake, the kitty, is enjoying looking out the windows.

Have a wonderful weekend. Blessings and love to each of you,Diana

Painting an OWL in Watercolor

When I put in his chest feathers, it was such fun!

The beginning of Beauregard, the Barred Owl.
HI, This week I started Beauregard. Remember the owl I saw at Norfolk Botanical Garden, this is him. I actually got to pet his back, it was so very soft. Later I looked and he had put his head on his caretakers breast and fallen asleep. How adorable.. You know how much I love nature!!

Anyway, I sketched him first and have dry brushed and then dabbled water where I wanted the colors to bleed. This creates such a soft feather! I hope to work on him today. It's warm and sunny maybe I'll paint on the back porch again. I love being outside with the hummingbirds zooming thru the porch, now the baby Carolina Wren has left the nest in the eves over where I paint so no more visits from their family. We do have 2 new kittens which need homes.. both tuxedo cats. Sadie and Mama cat are having a feud, Sadie, our lab, wants to see and play, and Mama cat is protecting her babies..

Wishing you a happy weekend. Next weekend I have an art show. Barrier Island Center Art and Music on the Farm.  Love to each of  you. Diana

Lost in a Daffodil

Diana's daffodil, just painted.
Hi !! I couldn't help myself. This has been sitting on my art table. So I just stopped everything except of course the sip of coffee, and drew it and painted it. It's Fabriano  Hot Press 140 lbs. I love leaving the watermark of the paper on the painting. I truly seem to lose myself in the drawing and the painting, just experiencing the beauty of the gorgeous daffodil.. do I really have to go do the dishes now? love to each of you,Diana  I'm going , I'm going...

To Feel the Brush Move

I just lost the post. Blasted. ah... well I was just telling you about The Stage Door Gallery in Cape Charles,Va. having an Art Opening tonight. I have 5 new paintings there. The subject of the show was a lovely poem about the Eastern Shore, oysters, water, and the beauty we have here. It will be a lovely show. It lasts for 2 months so you have time to stop in if you can't make it tonight. I'm afraid I can't.

The week has been busy with my Bible Study, Drs. appointments, and errands. I just need to go paint now. To feel the brush in my hand and the smooth glide of it on the paper.

Wishing each of you a wonderful weekend. Still check out Facebook to see photos of my newest work. I'll get this working soon. I hope. love to each of you,Diana
