An Artist's Day

Glads and Hummingbird, 16 x20, $330 original framed.  Now at Stage Door Gallery.

The sweetheart dog visiting Stage Door today.
Vera, Clelia and Michael, accepting artwork for opening of "Magic" Holiday Art Show at Stage Door Gallery.

Mama, Vera, and Clelia, as John Nyberg is taking down his vibrant paintings from last show.
HI , sorry I've been so long in writing. I had to take some new watercolors to Stage Door Gallery , part of Artscenter in Cape Charles,Va yesterday. Mama went with me. Pictured above is the gallery, with Clelia, Vera, and Michael accepting the new artwork for the Christmas and Holiday Show. It's always a very festive and lovely show with ideas for gifts small and larger. So I took down  some work and they now have 9 originals of mine. One of which pictured above.  Hard to believe it is getting that time of year. Isn't it??

On the way back home we stopped at Appleseed Nursery, a delightful and happy place. So many pumpkins, it just makes me happy to see them all. I bought one little yellow pansy and a tiny pumpkin for me and Mama.  This is in Cheriton.

Then last we stopped at Machipongo Trading Co. for lunch and discovered Gertraud Fendler, a dear friend and she is a jewelry artist of Sea Glass, was there so we visited as we ate yummy grilled sandwiches and iced coffee. It was a nice day.

Sadie, our lab is doing fine, Cupcake, our kitty too.. We have good news. We caught the last Feral Kitten, a tiny black one, we have given away 2 kittens recently. So very glad this is the last one. She is precious with big green eyes. We have her in the bathroom adapting to life as a domestic kitty, so lots of petting and purring going on.

Wishing each of you a wonderful week. love to each of you,Diana

To Feel the Brush Move

I just lost the post. Blasted. ah... well I was just telling you about The Stage Door Gallery in Cape Charles,Va. having an Art Opening tonight. I have 5 new paintings there. The subject of the show was a lovely poem about the Eastern Shore, oysters, water, and the beauty we have here. It will be a lovely show. It lasts for 2 months so you have time to stop in if you can't make it tonight. I'm afraid I can't.

The week has been busy with my Bible Study, Drs. appointments, and errands. I just need to go paint now. To feel the brush in my hand and the smooth glide of it on the paper.

Wishing each of you a wonderful weekend. Still check out Facebook to see photos of my newest work. I'll get this working soon. I hope. love to each of you,Diana

Been one of those weeks..

HI, The show went well. I sold 5---,4 were little eastern shore landscapes and the fifth was my Emu. I was wiped out afterwards,my back is not so great. Monday, I had to go to Cape Charles,Stage Door Gallery to exchange my work. It's a lovely gallery but in the morning I had to take our Rudy --our 20 year old kitty,to the vet. We found out some bad news. She has cancer, the only help is to keep her comfortable. We are,and have been, she is spoiled so very spoiled as she should be..  She is moving less but is happy. A lot of purring going on. Today I found out my dear friend is in the hospital with some health problems. So I took her paintings and mine to exchange at The Hermitage in Onancock, got all that done. It's been one of those weeks I haven't gotten any painting done and feel as if my head is in a bucket. But spring is on the way, the trees are budding with new leaves... I'll go  pick up my paint brush, we've already played ball (Sadie and I). Love to each of you,Diana

Frog Watercolor

HI, This is a frog from the past. One of my very favorite. The painting was bought awhile ago and is in Illinois. I love the way the pour worked into the tree.  I had to go to Stage Door Gallery to change work there today. That's in Cape Charles, 30 minutes away. I did some washes this morning in yellows and oranges. What do I paint next?? Tomorrow my sister is coming to visit, so perhaps I'll see something in the garden at my mothers.. how is your painting going today. Love,Diana

A Week

Sunflower in garden in Cape Charles,Va.

Blooming Devil's Walking Stick.. the butterflies love this. It's in my backyard!

My adorable Sadie.
It's been one of those few days when everything is going on and I haven't painted like I wanted to.  I've done a few little things. I did a quick forest scene trying to capture the golden back lighting coming thru the trees. I did it in just a few minutes.
Here it is. fun but ah well.. so what did I do this week. Well, I had a couple of lessons I taught. I went to Cape Charles at the Stage Door Gallery on Wednesday to pick up some paintings. I sold another silly chicken painting! ha ha.. I stopped at the Appleseed Nurseries on the way home and looked around, didn't buy anything this time. Thursday I went to my parents to help them and today I went to Nancy's funeral, which was nice if funerals can be nice, yes of course I cried..so I've been trying to read just now while John is watching a fight on tv. I've starting a new James Patterson book-- I know I'll enjoy it once I get in it. I did read a excellent art book this week. Everyday Matters by Danny Gregory. So inspiring, I've read it once and am rereading it.. Hope you have a wonderful weekend. What have you done this week? talk to you soon,Love to you,Diana

Barn Owl Watercolor

I decided to do him again. I woke up the other night at 3am.  Walked by the painting-heading to the kitchen to get a drink of water. It was on my board propped, so I could see it easily, and said.. no.. the vines are way too much. I got carried away with them. They were becoming as important as the little owl.. so I cropped it, at 3 am. The next morning I said I can do better on the drawing so I started all over again. I found a seed pod of the Sweet Gum tree on my walk yesterday and put that in this morning before I drove down to Cape Charles to exchange paintings at the Stage Door Gallery. I'll finish his feet and decide what to do with the background. I'm leaning toward dark so he'll stand out. That's just the shadow from the window across his midsection. Do owls have midsections.???He's standing on a rusty metal beam, I may have to dull it down, talk to you soon. What are you working on today? Love,Diana

Tell me your leaf ideas..

HI! I've added some leaves in a pale purple. I thought about green but it overpowered and clashed..I didn't get as much done yesterday as I had hoped. I had to send out  emails to clients/students about Friday's opening at The Stage Door and Saturday's class at Norfolk Botanical Garden. The emails take me a long time to send.. I need to find a quicker way to do that. My plan for today is to finish the Monarch and decide what to do with the purple leaves..

Tell me your ideas.. thanks.. I've got to finish the painting soon..talk to you soon,Diana

Tree Frog and Wild Persimmons

HI! I picked these beauties yesterday from the tree over my clothesline in the backyard. I'm pretty sure they are wild persimmons. Each year they are so lush looking. I paint them but don't eat them. A friend told me they are very tart. I've added a tree frog to the branch and I plan to paint negatively and darkly for the background. Love the peachy colors!  I drove down to Cape Charles to the Stage Door Gallery this morning. It's exchange your paintings day and was tickled to find I'd sold 2 little paintings. One of an Angry Rooster! :) I'm sipping hot coffee and it's cool today. Happy Monday! Talk to you soon,Diana

ps Tell me what you are doing today!

Star Magnolia and Daffodils...

HI,my class Saturday at Norfolk Botanical Gardens was wonderful. I had 8 students.Chickadees, star magnolias of different varieties, lenten roses, were some of the subject matters we worked on. It was inspiring and so lovely. Even walking to the door there were lovely sweet flowering bushes..to inspire us. These are some of the flowers we had there. As you can see the star magnolia is fading fast but is so gorgeous. Works beautifully on thalo blue and burnt umber washes.. So I'm hoping to get some flower paintings begun. I've got the enthusiasm if I can get this cranky body to do it. Rested all yesterday. My back and head are much better today..take care.Today I slipped to Cape Charles,it's painting change day. A new show is going up. The March Madness Show in Stage Door Gallery. All art is priced under $100. I took 4 little watercolors! Talk to you soon, Diana

Quick Rooster Watercolor

Hi! The show was wonderful, lots of people, lots of friends, Smith Island Cake, and Sales. Yesterday I went down to The Stage Door Gallery for their painting exchange. I took 3 new paintings there. I asked my mother to go with me and we had a nice time. On the way back up the road we stopped at Appleseed Nursery and bought some freshly picked gourds and pumpkins. Here are a few we bought. They are so cute. I know I've got to paint them! Today I had some errands so I did a quick rooster painting. I sometimes think when we paint something fast we capture the essence of it. I had to put a few more checkerboard squares in this one. No more for awhile,I promise. take care and talk to you soon, Enjoy the smell of the leaves and that sweetness in the evening. It's a gorgeous autumn. Diana
