Merry Christmas, Wren Watercolor steps

Here is  the progress of my Carolina Wren and dried hydrangea Watercolor.  I  always draw first. The super dark background  is last and if it is not dark enough  I glaze sometimes a few times.

Hi, I can't believe  Christmas  is close. The last show was good. Next show  is in February, so that is good and break.  My Christmas shopping is almost over, and I finished  the last cookie baking today. Here is our Christmas tree. So many cherished friends and our children  made the wonderful ornaments.  So many memories....Wishing each of you a blessed Christmas Or Holiday
 my love to you, Diana

New Hummingbird Watercolor & Pig to come

Add caption

I am writing this on the tablet. Funny  I never seem to get the photos sized right or something, ah well. We have been working on the yard.me as much as I can. I planted 18 Loblolly pines across  the front of the empty cut land . Wat and Chris worked 2 days to get logs out of the side yard and clean up the yard  and it looks so much better we helped too,so I have been sore,ha ha. I haven't painted much this week. I did sketch a pig today. I will start her tomorrow, this is Roxanne she was behind Corner Bakery the day I painted in the window at Red Queen Gallery. There was a special parade of animals in town. Goats, black lab,and Roxanne  was in the parking lot. You know how I love animals. I was in heaven, so here is her photo with me. Hope you had a nice weekend.  I heard  a Great Horned Owl this morning.  Love to you,Diana

Two new little watercolors, turnip greens and jelly bean.

Wild Mushrooms  original watercolor, 8x10, 99 dollars.

Little  Chickadee, 8x10, 99.
Hi  eveyone, this week I picked up my work  from the Eastern Shore Art League  Member  show. I picked up Monelle s work too.

John brought me a huge bag of turnip  greens so that took 3 hours to clean, pick them and cook them. Whew... it was a job. But they will be for Thanksgiving, Christmas  aND a tiny bowl for now. They are yummy.

I worked on both of these little paintings this week. We have mushrooms popping up everywhere in the yard. No idea don't  know which ones  are  edible but these are not.. the Camilla was growing in my parents  yard and smelled so sweet. Cupcake  plucked each petal off the blooms after I got it painted.

Our  little black kitty is coming around,  very loving. John named her Jelly bean. Sadie has had more knee aching this week but I give her a pain pills if she needs it.

Sending  you love, Diana

Class and Sadie's Surgery--Healing

Norfolk Botanical Garden Watercolor Class on Hydrangeas and Spicebush Swallow Tail Butterfly!

The Japanese Garden at NBG. Our next subject in class there!
Hi Everyone,  Yesterday, I was in Norfolk,Va. at the Norfolk Botanical Garden teaching "Hydrangeas and Spicebush Swallow tail Butterflies." I had 10 students. Pictured above are a few of the students. We used saran wrap to begin our hydrangeas. I took some flowers from home too, I had some gorgeous purple hydrangeas and Daddy had some amazing Oak Leaf Hydrangeas. At lunch Renee and I walked to the Japanese Garden and she held onto the back of my shirt as I leaned into the pond to try to capture the amazing Lotus Blossoms and Water Lilies.. Gorgeous!!! I didn't fall in! We all had a nice time. It was a lovely day!

Sadie, our lab, as you know had surgery last week on her Cruciate ligament in her knee. So, it went well. She is starting to get her energy back. We are icing it and giving her her pain meds and helping her as much as we can. I have a photo of her on facebook  from after the surgery sleeping. She is coming along well.

Have a wonderful Sunday, Love to each of you,Diana

Painting an OWL in Watercolor

When I put in his chest feathers, it was such fun!

The beginning of Beauregard, the Barred Owl.
HI, This week I started Beauregard. Remember the owl I saw at Norfolk Botanical Garden, this is him. I actually got to pet his back, it was so very soft. Later I looked and he had put his head on his caretakers breast and fallen asleep. How adorable.. You know how much I love nature!!

Anyway, I sketched him first and have dry brushed and then dabbled water where I wanted the colors to bleed. This creates such a soft feather! I hope to work on him today. It's warm and sunny maybe I'll paint on the back porch again. I love being outside with the hummingbirds zooming thru the porch, now the baby Carolina Wren has left the nest in the eves over where I paint so no more visits from their family. We do have 2 new kittens which need homes.. both tuxedo cats. Sadie and Mama cat are having a feud, Sadie, our lab, wants to see and play, and Mama cat is protecting her babies..

Wishing you a happy weekend. Next weekend I have an art show. Barrier Island Center Art and Music on the Farm.  Love to each of  you. Diana

Whirlwind Saturday!

Here I am with my paintings Saturday night at Norfolk Academy Art Show Opening.
Here is my booth at the Women's Club Art Show on Saturday.
HI! Saturday was a whirlwind. It was fun but hard. I sold 2 little paintings at the Women's Club and then John and I packed up everything and took it all home and unpacked it. I rested for 45 minutes and Beth, my dear friend, came and drove me to Norfolk to the other show. This was 1 hour and 20 minutes away. It was a wonderful show and I sold the painting to the bottom on the right, "He gave me flowers." We had fun and then stopped for supper at a tiny adorable restaurant called Leaping Lizard on Shore Drive. Finally got home at 11 and I'm still exhausted. My back, all my joints you name it hurts, I'm wiped out. Going to rest some more today.

Yesterday I took a walk to loosen my back and came back dear Sadie, our lab,-- you know-- got in deer something.. a horrible stink-- so I had to bathe her.. the rascal crawled under the porch so I did too to get her clean. She smells like a fresh breeze now! Ha!!!

Tell me what you are painting and doing. love to each of you, Diana

An Orange Cow in Watercolor--plus 2 ART SHOWS SAT! Holy Cow..

My newest cow original, 8x10, framed $99, she has the potato masher nose print.
HI ! Last week was busy. I had a class at ESO on Thursday and somehow the week zoomed by. This weekend we had Clay, our son, home for a visit. I always try to clean extra( I really need to clean extra always but paint more than anything) and cook things he likes. Like we all do when we have loved ones coming!! I made chicken salad, he loves that.

I had to put brush to paper while he was here so I did a quick wash and then placed my potato masher on the wet wash, thinking nose. No other thoughts just nose. Can you see it on her nose?? I truly was getting sadder by degree as the day went on as I knew he was going back home so I think the painting picked up on it but I feel that makes it sorta endearing. Ha ha..Tell me what you think.

I've ordered frames this morning so I'm going to frame it for the Women's Club Art Show this Saturday, April 25, The show will be in Onley,Va. at the Women's Clubhouse and also they will be serving lunch and have gorgeous plants and we'll have 17 artists there displaying our work. 9am-3pm....

and another show that night. Norfolk Academy Art Show and Sale Opening, at Norfolk Academy in Norfolk,Va. from 6-8pm. I'm going to that too. I have 4 originals there. I'm going to be wiped out completely afterward. Please check the dates and times at right! Thank you , love to each of you,Diana

Pink Roses Finished.

Pink Roses coming along

Pink Roses finished. Clay, our son brought them to me.
HI Everyone, here is the finished painting. Looking at the roses in the vase they were all the same height so I got the idea to paint them all in a line. I drizzled Permanent Rose in drips down the paper with hints of green and drew each one. I love flowers so very much. I'm afraid these are drooping so now but the petals are still gorgeous. The Christmas tree is very dry but smells so good and I don't want to take it down yet. How about you??

It's rainy today. Clay, our son has gone home. Laura, our daughter didn't get here this year for Christmas.

Sadie is sitting on the back porch wondering why I'm not playing outside with her. It's cold and raining.. I'll put on some beans for supper and do the dishes and wonder what to paint next. Tell me what you are painting!

Love to each of you , Diana

HORRORS and Roses

My new Rose Watercolor... beginnings...

HORRORS...Sadie , my dog, was eating this under my art table... I managed to get these pieces out of her mouth.

Do you know what it is?? A Bic disposable razor. I gave her some Maalox tablets and looked in her mouth, and have been watching her.  She is ok. All razors are there. My heart was in my throat. What can she get into next... I think she's had too much Christmas...

Here is my new roses painting, I started today. Clay, our son, brought me pink roses. They are starting to droop so I've got to paint fast now.

Hope you are continuing to have a great Christmas/ Holiday. love to you,Diana

Trying to Paint with a Very Bad Doggie!

My chair in the sunshine, I was trying to embrace the warmth while we have it!

What I'm working on now, the lotus blossom from NBG and a dragonfly.

You see she won't even look at me for her mug shot.
HI!. It was so beautiful this afternoon I decided to paint in the sunshine in the backyard. As you can see I'm working on the lotus blossom from the Japanese Garden at Norfolk Botanical Garden. It's so gorgeous there and tranquil.

It wasn't tranquil here.  You know who... Sadie , our lab, would not stop doing bad things. She dug a hole in front of the air conditioner, three times. I've filled it up each time added coffee grounds to it, I hope that keeps her away.  She got a mouthful of crush and run gravel and looked over her shoulder as if to say-- see what I"m eating.. I got that away from her and smacked her backside. Then she grabbed my sponge off my palette, I use one to control the amount of water on my brush. it was saved in pieces. I didn't want her to hurt herself.. oh yes and she tried to eat An  Old Man in the Woods Mushroom., a black furry mushroom. What a silly dog!  I'm exhausted.

The watercolor--
I've still got to add another glaze to the water/dark-- sepia ,ultramarine blue, and viridian mix. I want this to really pop it up. The dragonfly needs to be lifted a little so it can be seen. I may add a touch of cadmium yellow dark to a few of the leaves.  So that's my day so far, what have you been doing?? love to you,Diana
