NBG Watercolor CLASS, Heritage Festival this Saturday

Add caption

Here is my CLASS at Norfolk Botanical Garden this past Saturday.  We painted pansies and dahlias and they turned out beautiful  paintings. We did the dahlia by drawing a mandala first. Using the center as the center of the flower and adding layers of petals which fell into place with the guide of the mandala.  After CLASS WE enjoyed  the beauty of handmade kimono, made from pieces of rice paper in every color.  Glorious. This is for Lantern Asia,an amazing  light and Art display.

This week I am getting ready for the Heritage Festival 10am to 3pm at Eastern Shore Community College this Saturday.  40 local artists, antique tractors,  By the Bay Alpacas,  so many things to buy or enjoy. Take care! Love to EACH of you,Diana

Blizzard Moans

well, we had a blizzard  here, day 4 of not getting out. As beautiful  as the snow is 12 inches, I am starting to hate it. I want to walk in the woods, we have shoveled the driveway but back roads are still bad. I have frozen some paintings,.....tomorrow it will be warmer, melting yeah! Stay warm and safe...Love to you, Diana

An Artist's Day

Glads and Hummingbird, 16 x20, $330 original framed.  Now at Stage Door Gallery.

The sweetheart dog visiting Stage Door today.
Vera, Clelia and Michael, accepting artwork for opening of "Magic" Holiday Art Show at Stage Door Gallery.

Mama, Vera, and Clelia, as John Nyberg is taking down his vibrant paintings from last show.
HI , sorry I've been so long in writing. I had to take some new watercolors to Stage Door Gallery , part of Artscenter in Cape Charles,Va yesterday. Mama went with me. Pictured above is the gallery, with Clelia, Vera, and Michael accepting the new artwork for the Christmas and Holiday Show. It's always a very festive and lovely show with ideas for gifts small and larger. So I took down  some work and they now have 9 originals of mine. One of which pictured above.  Hard to believe it is getting that time of year. Isn't it??

On the way back home we stopped at Appleseed Nursery, a delightful and happy place. So many pumpkins, it just makes me happy to see them all. I bought one little yellow pansy and a tiny pumpkin for me and Mama.  This is in Cheriton.

Then last we stopped at Machipongo Trading Co. for lunch and discovered Gertraud Fendler, a dear friend and she is a jewelry artist of Sea Glass, was there so we visited as we ate yummy grilled sandwiches and iced coffee. It was a nice day.

Sadie, our lab is doing fine, Cupcake, our kitty too.. We have good news. We caught the last Feral Kitten, a tiny black one, we have given away 2 kittens recently. So very glad this is the last one. She is precious with big green eyes. We have her in the bathroom adapting to life as a domestic kitty, so lots of petting and purring going on.

Wishing each of you a wonderful week. love to each of you,Diana

Class and Happy Easter

HI HAPPY EASTER~!   Here is a photo of the gorgeous cross decorated by the ladies of my church, Craddockville United Methodist in Craddockville. The flowers come from all over the neighborhood.  I enjoyed the beautiful service this morning and the meaningful message.

Here's Norfolk Botanical Garden, with a few of the 9 students we had yesterday at my class. It was a beautiful day and we painted tulips and daffodils. I'm so tired today. Wishing you a lovely, blessed weekend. Love,Diana

Painting Snow in Watercolor for R.

HI !! This is for Renee, she asked me how to paint snow. I hope it helps you. It's a really simple demo. The second photo is just a little snow scene I've used for Christmas cards. I draw the horizon line then wet the sky area and paint thalo blue and ultramarine blue in almost a flat wash using the tip of my brush or a smaller brush I dab dab dab Viridian green with some sepia to create a very loose tree shape. the water will cause it to bleed so it's fuzzy and perfect for a little tree. I add a few loose grains of kosher salt , individually for snowflakes.  I come back into the white "snow" foreground and add two lines of water and touch them with my blues and greens.. and that is it. When it dryes take off the salt, snowflakes. If it's for Christmas I add a yellow dot at the top of the tree.

The next photo is a branch with snow on it, I just pencil in a branch then draw a lump of snow going down the branch. Put the dark sepia with burnt umber for the branch and then paint the wet wash around the area minus the snow lump. Go right up to the snow with the blue. It must be dark enough to show a difference for the snow to pop out. Add snow flakes from kosher salt while wet. Then add a grey blue shadow on the side of the snowy lump to give it depth and a little definition. Hope you get to paint some snow tomorrow. Bring it to class if you do or send it to me.

I love snow. I know here on the ES we don't get much so it's usually not a big problem and leaves quickly but when we do get it, the kids get off from school and it's almost a celebration. well for my family. ha ha..

I'm happy to help with questions
hope this helps! love to each of you,Diana

The first photo is one I did last year. Lots of Thalo and lots of water to create the back washes..

Trying Brusho and Look at Our Frog Visitor

Sorry it's a little blurry. But I so wanted you to see our frog. It lives in a dried up hydrangea blossom on my hydrangea by the back porch. It has freckles on his back, just a few and a racers strip down it's side. Sadie, our lab, has no idea why I'm talking to the flower but she can't reach it so he's safe.

I"ve gotten in Brusho Art Crystals and am going to play with them today. Anyone have any tips?? They will be such fun. Have a wonderful day. love to each of you,Diana
