Boat in Wachapreague,Watercolor

11x14 original watercolor, Wachapreague,Va. Framed $300.
HI, this is what I've been working on. I took the photo outside the Island House Restaurant in Wachapreague,Va.  This is the town my mother grew up in. It's a little fishing village here on the Eastern Shore.  I'll always have fond memories of Wachapreague.  The watercolor is on a pour background,I didn't put in all the posts.. there are so many. I plan/hope to have it framed by Wednesday for Harvest Festival. Let me know what you think of it. Hope you all have a nice weekend. take care,Diana

Wild Mushroom Watercolor

Hi,Well I took another bike ride today. This time I spotted a gold mushroom. It's actually the same kind as the red, but it is metallic gold. Both are hallucinogenic and can be poisonous if eaten. The name is amanita muscaria.   I did bring the gold one home and incorporated it into the little watercolor with an oak leaf and and some acorns.I enjoyed painting them..

This painting is 8x10, $99,"Wild Mushrooms", and copyrighted by Diana M.Davis.

Roses Class at NBG

Hi! Yesterday was my Roses Class at Norfolk Botanical Gardens. We had 4 students, pictured are Kathy,Bobbie, and Jeffery.. also Corey. We had a lovely time. Here are the roses from the gardens we enjoyed painting. Yes they smelled divine,so very sweet and different smells for different roses. We all painted roses. Kathy, a large red rose, which involved lots of glazing, Jeffery, chose a yellow one, Bobbie a peach rose, and Corey, did an orange one.All did a beautiful job. I did demonstrations, and we went over ..sketching,basic washes,... We had an exercise in contour drawing and filled the day with watercolor and roses...how wonderful! Have a great rest of  your weekend. talk to you soon,Diana

Frogs and Roses

Hi! I worked on my frog watercolor yesterday afternoon and just finished it a few moments ago. I decided to go over the leaf on the right. I loved the colors but thought it was distracting. I'd just read a blog about simplifying and this is how I applied it.

I'm teaching a class on roses on Saturday at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens.  Their roses are magnificent. Here's the entry to their rose garden.. Yes, I'll take photos Saturday. My thoughts for class is everyone do a large rose and if we have time do a pour with some long stem buds. (I may reverse that). Here is "Rose"my watercolor. I went to the florist and went thru every rose they had. Yes.. it took me an hour. I found two roses I considered perfect, or close enough, and bought just those two. Ha Ha.. They had even let me go thru their cooler in the back room to choose the roses.. The Right Touch in Nassawadox,Va. Well I came home and painted "Rose". What we do for our art!!! ha ha.

I'm sorry to say we ate the eggplant before I painted them. Ratatouille. It was delicious..I ate it all, no hubby doesn't like it.. but I did take photos of the eggplant.

On to the next painting, first I have to clean up the leaves, vines, and wild persimmons from the art table. The puppies haven't been born yet and I've held myself back from calling.. to see how the mother is doing.. I'll let you know when I do and if I can I'll get some photos of the baby asap. talk to you soon, Diana

Tree Frog and Wild Persimmons

HI! I picked these beauties yesterday from the tree over my clothesline in the backyard. I'm pretty sure they are wild persimmons. Each year they are so lush looking. I paint them but don't eat them. A friend told me they are very tart. I've added a tree frog to the branch and I plan to paint negatively and darkly for the background. Love the peachy colors!  I drove down to Cape Charles to the Stage Door Gallery this morning. It's exchange your paintings day and was tickled to find I'd sold 2 little paintings. One of an Angry Rooster! :) I'm sipping hot coffee and it's cool today. Happy Monday! Talk to you soon,Diana

ps Tell me what you are doing today!

New Hummingbird Watercolor

Hi! This Thursday, I taught a Hummingbird Watercolor Class at ESO Art Center in Belle Haven,Va. It was a small class but we had a good time.

Pictured above is a hummingbird painting I did this week. The Ruby Throated Male Hummer in my painting has iridescent paint on him as well as gold metallic watercolor paint. The background is a pour with some of the gold .  Today was one of those days I didn't get to paint as much as I had hoped. Our kitchen stove broke down so we had to get a new one today , and my new eyeglasses came in and I went to get them. The frames are red.. a big change but I'm tickled with them especially because I can see so much better!!! I had not realized I needed new glasses.

Wishing you all a peaceful weekend. The season here is turning slowly to fall which is delightful.I've enjoyed my walks this week. talk to you soon,Diana
