Raining Painting of Wachapreague,Va

Watercolor of Wachapreague,Va. Still in progress. My mother grew up in this little waterside village.

More to be done but enjoyed using the palette knife for texture on this old metal building.

Sadie, relaxing under the table while I'm working. Such a wonderful foot warmer!
Hi,this afternoon, I've been painting a small Eastern Shore mini landscape of Wachapreague,Va. This is the little town my mother grew up in. Her family were watermen. They worked on the water and fished and crabbed. My dad's family were farmers. I have so many fond memories of JackaMom, my grandparents in Wachapreague. John and I lived in my great grandparents house next door to Mom,( my grandfather Jack had passed away by that time, I still miss both of them.) my mother's mother the first year we got married. Main Street Wachapreague,it was such a wonderful time there. This little metal building was on the waterfront near where the Island House Restaurant is now. As you can see Sadie has had a nap while the clouds come in and it looks like some rain  here and I painted. I hope so, my flowers need some.

Last night I cut my finger badly. John and I thought we were going to end up at the ER but thankfully the bleeding stopped after he helped me bandage and put pressure on it. It's sore but has only bled a little today. What a time. I'm so glad it was on my left hand,so I could paint-- I'm right handed. Talk to you soon. love,Diana

Heron Watercolor continues,A Smoother Day!

Heron Watercolor In Progress

Diana at Art Table,with Sadie
Hi! I worked on my heron watercolor a little more today.Today was so much smoother than yesterday. That is me at my art table, you knew- I love bright colors, and Sadie was just getting out of my lap. We have a lot of old country rockers that were in the family, that one beside me was in John's family. I have one that was my great -great grandfathers from Wachapreague,Va. I love them.. they creak nicely when I rock!

I hope I get to paint much more tomorrow. I need to for my peace of mind.

John had brought 2 huge bags of turnip greens and kale for me to cook for Thanksgiving.. I did all that this afternoon. When Sadie went out today we stayed in the backyard, to keep her safe..and will be there as much as possible.Monelle came over. She is painting a lovely surprise for someones Christmas.

Tell me what you are painting or creating today. Love to you,Diana

Wachapreague, Va. Always Feels Like Home.

HI! This weekend I squeezed some time in while they were working out to paint so I finished this little Eastern Shore Mini landscape of Wachapreague,Va. This is where my husband and I lived the first year of our marriage and my mother and her parents all grew up. It's a little fishing village and it always feels like home.Just saying the name brings back wonderful memories of my grandparents.

I went back into my sky to make it stand out more with a wash of water and then dropped in the clouds of thalo blue and sepia with a hint of ultramarine blue afterwords. I used the palette knife on the little metal building. Just dip your knife into water then in the paint then smear on the painting. This is great for dry brush effects or a very dramatic color zing to watercolors..and it's fun!

I started another little landscape of Willis Wharf. I sold 5 of my ES minis at my last show and need to have some more for the next one. It's rainy here today, Daisy is snoring loudly nearby and I've got my coffeepot full and lots of leftovers cooked up for supper. A perfect day to paint!! take care, talk to you soon,Diana

PS The orchid I just got recently and is such a gorgeous thing.. I wanted to show it to you!

Egg Basket and Gourds

HI, Here is a new painting I just finished-- a still life of gourds in my great grandmothers' egg basket. She used this in Wachapreague,Va. to gather eggs from her chickens. Her name was Elva (Dah) and she was a very dear lady with bright blue eyes and kindness truly radiated from her. She was married to my great grandfather, Bernie,Pop,(who would sneak us kids candy when no one was looking). They lived on Main St. Wachapreague,a fishing village on the Eastern Shore. My mother, her brother, and her parents grew up there. It was always special to go to JackaMoms and Dah and Pop's.

So here are some acorns, some different leaves, hickory, sassafras, devils walking stick, and 3 adorable gourds.. which I knew I had to paint, all the polka dots were so much fun.Fall has so many wonderful warm colors.. Now to frame it(UGH--not my favorite thing to do).. Talk soon, hope to see you at Harvest Festival, Diana
