Painting Roses and Class this Saturday

Wachapreague Roses, 8x10, framed  $99.

Hi Everyone,  this Saturday  I am teaching at Norfolk Botanical Garden,  Peonies  and Iris, call Meredith at 1 757 441 5830 ext 338 to register.

Here are some photos of my new painting of Roses. My great Aunt Pat gave them to me from her little  shop in Wachapreague, Va. Seaside Antiques and Art.  First I drew them on my arches 140lb. Cold press, then I painted them varying the peach, pink ,yellow mix  ooo loving the peach colors  this year.  My shadows were not strong enough so I went back in and glazed the darker peaches in. I used thina roone violet, permanent rose, opera rose, cad yellow light and cad yellow medium, cad red medium...just for the roses. Background  (continuing my darkness)  I used viridian green, sepia, burnt umber, ultramarine blue  and cad yellow  light.

But this weekend  we will paint peonies  and iris. I choose  what is on their blooming chart, but as in nature it doesn't  always  work out that that is Blooming,  I hope So! I would rather paint from life.

I have planted  4 packs of sunflowers seed. So far they are 1 in. High. I love Sunflowers don't  you. I hope you had a nice happy mothers day.  I did our son came home with his girlfriend,  our daughter  called looking forward to seeing her soon. Love to each of you,  Diana  below are 2 photos of Norfolk Academy Art Show,  I sold one of my paintings,  Here are Bobbie, Beth, Danny and me. It was a fun time!

New Work and Ramblings

Iris, 8 x 10, 99 dollars

Hummingbird and  Red Geranium, 8x10, 99 dollars

Hi,everyone, I have  not  been keeping in touch  like I mean to. I have been  painting as much as I can.  I went to the Opening at Norfolk Academy and that was lovely, I did sell one of my four paintings, the Angry Chicken.  This chicken painting  had a checker board tail. I have been painting just whatever  has inspired me, mostly  spring things. I love all the beautiful  colors popping out every  where. Next Saturday I will be teaching at Norfolk Botanical Garden. I always get ideas there ,it is so lovely.

You have heard me say we live in a forest, well, we are cutting the timber. This is a good thing but you by now know how much the woods and wildlife mean to me. I know it will grow back but it seems to hurt my heart when I hear the wind in the trees or just see how magnificent  they are. Silly but me...

Sadie, my lab, Jelly, our black kitten, and Cupcake, our cat,and all are well. Oops suppertime.  Gotta cook, love to each of you, Diana

Sadie's operation is today and Maplewood ESAl Paint out.

Yesterday was the Eastern Shore Art League Paint out at Maplewood Gardens in Nassawadox,Va. I went and enjoyed painting a quick watercolor of part of the big house at Maplewood. This is the breezeway and office that connects to the house. Everywhere was flowers as you can see I got some good photos of the hibiscus and canna too. Here are Monelle and Sue and some of us around the pool there. Such a lovely place. I bought a few vinca to plant in my flower gardens. Sadie helped she ate or rather shredded one. Here she is with an ear of corn, from my grocery shopping. Today Sadie gets her spaying operation. My heart is in my throat and will be all day. I'm such a sensitive one.Keep us in your thoughts..love to you,Diana

Painting in the Sunshine with Rudy!

Oh, it's such a sunny day, Rudy, our kitty and I went out on the front porch and we sat and painted for awhile. Remember where Daisy and I painted. Rudy decided to lay on the edge of the painting, silly kitty. Now she is nestled on the trunk in the den where she sleeps 90% of the time. I wonder how she'll feel when she gets a puppy nose up there with her.  :) Less than 2 weeks we'll have our puppy.  Here is the painting I'm working on. I was adding the blue glass lid and the jonquil in the foreground. Unfortunately the flowers have died-shriveled up-- not quite slimey but getting there.. so I've had to improvise. The last photo is of our visitor---yes 2 fox comes to our backyard most nights. Beautiful animals but they must leave before the puppy gets home. He was not fearful of me getting closer and closer to take this photo. I hope you had a warm sunny day today too. What have you done this April 1st..? love, Diana

Daffodils and Mini Landscape of Onancock

Well. I got the camera to work.  I just took a bike ride in the sunshine. I thought it was supposed to be warm and it's 39 degrees out there.. cool. ha.. Perhaps it helped me pedal faster.  :)

Here is the little daffodil I painted from flowers from Mama and Daddy's yard. I started the painting all wrong but needed to paint so I just drew a daffodil and painted  it then added more.. I like the way it did come out.  The next photo is the beginnings of a mini Eastern Shore Landscape watercolor.. It's Onancock. I took this reference photo last year. I'll go back to that after I finish saying Hi!

The puppies will go for their first vet check this week. They'll be 3 weeks old. Time is flying by!! My son is coming home this weekend. Daddy is doing ok. My sister is coming tomorrow to see him and us. Thank you all for your concern for Daddy and your love and support . It means so very much.

 talk to you soon,love,Diana

Heron Watercolor,Day 5

Well, I don't think you've seen this. I was painting and took photos but can't seem to download the photos on the computer now. Machines don't always do what I want them to do. It could be I don't know enough about them. ha ha. Well, I was painting a scene I started at Class Saturday. It's of a gazebo with hydranea bushes surrounding it. So pretty. You'll see it eventually. I may have to go delete 712 photos first but I'll work it out.  But this is one of my herons, I adore herons. Usually see one as we go over a tiny bridge (Shields Bridge) heading into Exmore. Keep painting. and I'll talk to you tomorrow. Take care,Diana

Number 2 Entry..Canna Lily and Monarch

HI, well I've started the #2 entry. Here's the beginning. I'll have another blossom of the Canna Lily, smaller than the first opposite the Monarch Butterfly.  I'm going to put some leaves in too and am leaning toward the purplish kind with some negative painting to pull them out. I like the pour and want to use that plus I love negative painting! The paintings are due Thursday am..all framed.Sooo I'm going to have to frame both too...I've painted all afternoon and really enjoyed it. Let me know what you think about the leaves in the left hand bottom corner. I don't have to put them in.. anyway. Hope you are having a restful Sunday, talk to you soon, Diana

Wrapped and Ready to Load

HI, Well Rudy thinks it's her table now.(Not what I want.) OH my, she's 17 and has arthritis and cries when she jumps up on something. I painted with her there today, just a tiny acorn painting. I'm better but am still going to rest after this. Tomorrow's show is at 10am-5pm. Here's the acorn painting at the top. No more painting until after the show...I've got supper on the stove. I heard from the lady with the pregnant lab.. she's thickening up and she 's pretty sure the dog is pregnant. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  Here are some of my smaller fall paintings ready to go. Everything is wrapped and ready to load. OH MY. :)  Will let you know how it goes..have a great weekend, love to you,Diana

Wild Mushroom Watercolor

Hi,Well I took another bike ride today. This time I spotted a gold mushroom. It's actually the same kind as the red, but it is metallic gold. Both are hallucinogenic and can be poisonous if eaten. The name is amanita muscaria.   I did bring the gold one home and incorporated it into the little watercolor with an oak leaf and and some acorns.I enjoyed painting them..

Talk to you soon,Diana

This painting is 8x10, $99,"Wild Mushrooms", and copyrighted by Diana M.Davis.

What A Place!

HI, I just came home from the Eastern Shore Art League Paint Out. It was at Carolyn's home near Parksley,Va. This was the home of Bobby Swain, the carver and his wife Terry, the painter. The little house on the dock was his studio. I could live there.. it's adorable, large windows, right on the water, loblolly pines. Here are a few of the ladies, from left to right, standing Susan,Barbara,Carol, Gayle,Monelle, and Purobe..We ate a lovely lunch of salads(everyone had made salads),painted on the deck, and just absorbed the peacefulness. Carolyn shared some begonias with us, I truly didn't want to leave.. I'm going to paint his studio.. I was so busy enjoying the beauty, I didn't paint much! :) ha ha.. and of course I got lost coming home.. ended up 2 towns north of Parksley before I found my path back.. oh brother.. ha ha. talk to you soon,Diana

Pushing for Inspiration

HI, Well, I just painted what was in front of me. I had brought this shell home from our beach trip. It's a blue mussel, I believe. I just laid it down and painted it and flipped it over and painted it again because both sides are beautiful. I used this iridescent powder.Keep it in old dog medicine bottles, just barely touch it with a wet brush. Add water and it gleams.Margaret gave it to me.

Thank you for your great suggestions. I'm just gonna keep painting. I did do a little gardening, I watered it and pulled a couple of weeds..but nature helps inspiration for me like you said. I'll just push..

I was delighted to find the little frog back this morning and so I took more photos. He? is on the wall by the back porch.

Look-- This hibiscus is blooming. Before, my Daisy we had Sandy, a golden retriever as she got older she decided this plant was her bathroom.(I loved it so.) It was right by the back porch and I tried to keep her away from it but, no.. so it died.. now after 12 years(after Daisy)--with no signs of it. It has come back and is blooming.. Amazing.. I painted it years ago. I may have to again.

Puppies are due to be born this Friday but Tammy said her girls deliver a few days early, so I keep checking my email. I'll let you know I promise as soon as I know. I pray they are well and if I may have a light yellow one..some puppy to love.  :)

 talk to you soon.,Diana
so I'm going to fix a large iced tea and take some paper out there and look at the froggie.. thank you,
