Hollyhock Watercolor, Decaying Buzzard Wing, and Serta Doggie Mattress
HI, Here is a new little loose hollyhock watercolor. I tried one of the demonstrations from Jean Haines book and it was so much fun. Painting negatively around the flower with lots of color.. I didn't get to paint long.
Sadie, our puppy, had to go out so out we went.I decided to move some dirt into the area the well people left with clumps of gray dirt.( Horrible dirt that hardens and Sadie loves to eat.) So I'm digging and burying the clumps. Sadie wanders into the woods and will not come to me. I'm calling and calling.. here she comes.. oh my gosh.. oh no..
She is regal in her prance and carries a half of a dead buzzard, wing fully extended..I can smell them coming.
She puts it down and backs away as if to say "Aren't you proud of me?" She snatches it and I make a quick grab for it ,into John's car washing bucket it goes and I hang it in the crape myrtle tree. Oh does it smell. I know she needs a bath now. But Sadie hates the hose... so I grab a soaped up rag and soap her down and pour a container of water on her. Off she runs.. and will not come to me. I'm chasing her around the yard, finally, finally, get her to come in and dry her off--- soaped areas too. Whatever..
I'd heard the phone so I called back-it was Beth, she's home from Montana. As we talked I saw Sadie chewing and chewing on something.----- She had eaten holes in her new Serta mattress( my mother brought it to her-- have you ever heard of a Serta Mattress for a dog.. talk about luxury.. good grief). So I got it away from her and as she took a nap I sewed it up.Suppertime was here.
Oh boy, she keeps you busy! Your hollyhock is off to a beautiful start!
ReplyDeleteMaybe a treadmill will help her run off some of that extra energy she has.
ReplyDeleteGracious you've had a time of it with her.
Prayers the rest of the week goes better
If it is dirty, stinky and rotten, dogs find it. Especially hunting dogs. Good to see Sadie is still a puppy! LOL I'll bet you slept well last night! Love the hollyhocks!
ReplyDeleteI'm still laughing! That Sadie is into EVERYTHING!!! I am amazed you find any time at all to paint. Your hollyhocks are exquisite! That technique has allowed you to create the "essence" of hollyhock - truly beautiful, Diana!
ReplyDeleteHugs to you and Sadie

ReplyDeleteFirst and foremost - love that loose hollyhock painting...just beautiful. Then for Sadie - the picture of you chasing her around the yard and gathering up the buzzard is more than my imagination could handle (LOL) - so from one puppy owner to the next - when they are grown and mature we will miss these cute antics but for the time being they can be a real trial. Take care and glad you could sew up Sadie's bed - Serta wow and for a dog but of course not just any dog - Sadie is one special pooch! Take care friend.
ReplyDeleteGoodness me! Sadie sounds like a real character! Sherlock never wanders off in the woods and sits and waits if we slack to far behind. But healing on a lead is proving a challenge - though recently a new way of training him to do this seems to be working. Oh and he still launches himself at our faces when he's excited and chews our feet which really hurts! So I am looking forward to when that phase is over... Is Sadie over that yet? Anyway - the painting is all sorts of watery wonderfulness!
ReplyDeletethe hollyhock is lovely - I have JH's book sitting on my shelf with about 100 other art books that I hardly open - still keep buying them though!!!?? Why is it that dogs love all things smelly - mine picks up bits of dead sheep while we're out walking and will roll in the most smelliest of things - fox poo being the worst!
